The Santa Monica Pier is Still Open – Here’s What You Need to Know About The Bridge Construction

Published on June 5, 2026

Next time you find yourself heading to the Santa Monica Pier, it might look a little different. The Pier Bridge Construction project is fully underway and the pier may appear to be inaccessible from Ocean Avenue with the old bridge completely closed off. However, a new temporary pedestrian bridge is now open and the Santa Monica Pier, Pacific Park, and all other Pier businesses remain open during the construction on the bridge. All your favorite food, rides, and games are still here, and we can’t wait to welcome you. If you’re heading to the Santa Monica Pier, follow the signage on Ocean Avenue or use one of the alternate entrances listed below.

What’s Changing?
Starting Friday, June 5th anyone visiting Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier by foot on Ocean Avenue will use a temporary pedestrian bridge, as the main entrance while the original bridge is demolished. Construction will bring improved access points and is expected to be completed by 2027.

Alternate Ways to Access the Pier
In addition to the temporary bridge, you can enter the pier through:
– Ocean Front Walk
– The protected walkway along the temporary vehicle ramp in the pier parking lot
– The stairs near Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Important Rules for Bikes & Small Vehicles
Bicycles, skateboards, and other small vehicles are not permitted on the pedestrian bridge. Instead, you can use Seaside Terrace to access the pier.

The Santa Monica Pier is Here for You
You can rest assured that the Santa Monica Pier will operate as normal during the construction. Pacific Park and all other pier businesses are fully operational, although operating hours may vary from business to business. Please confirm Pacific Park’s hours prior to visiting. Whether you’re coming to the Pier for the rides, the games, delicious foods, or just the beautiful ocean view, we hope to see you soon.
